SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say five cyclists have been injured after colliding with a vehicle during an amateur race.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Nigbur says the accident occurred Saturday morning at American Fork canyon near State Road 92.
He says that two cyclists struck the back of a sports utility vehicle, and three more crashed trying to avoid it.
One cyclist was flown to a hospital with critical injuries, while two others were hospitalized with lesser injuries and the other two were treated at the scene.
The cyclists were racing with 1,000 Warriors, an amateur race held in conjunction with the Tour of Utah, said Tour of Utah interactive director Patrick Commiskey.
